The Importance of Political News

Politics is an area of interest for many people around the world. As such, there are a lot of different news stories that can be found on this topic. Whether it is an interview with a political leader or a story about the latest political event, there is always something to write about. Political news articles are just as important as any other type of article and should be treated with the same level of professionalism.

Theories of the role of the mass media in politics often point out that the picture of political reality presented by the media, whether accurate or inaccurate, neutral or biased, influences the political behavior of individual citizens, societal groups, politicians, and nation-states. It is commonly believed that the only way to ensure that the information provided by the media reflects reality is through press freedom, a condition that includes not only an absence of censorship but also a plurality of sources and information and open access to the mass media for all citizens.

While there have been a number of studies on the influence of the media on public opinion, long-term studies do not show significant increases in voters’ political knowledge, even in the face of huge increases in both news supply and media exposure (Delli Carpini and Keeter 1996). In addition, new research shows that as online political users delve deeper into the long tail of media content, they are more likely to seek out sites that offer them overtly partisan points of view at the expense of those who profess to be neutral.
